Aggregate & Sand
Dryers / Coolers

Rising fuel costs have made fluid bed technology far less costly to operate than rotary dryers.

Reduce fuel consumption with advanced airflow design that maximizes heat transfer and minimizes wasted energy.
Lower operating costs through efficient fluidization that delivers consistent drying and cooling with less energy input.
Increase production efficiency with uniform material processing, reduced downtime, and optimized throughput for high-volume sand and aggregate operations.

Fluid Bed Dryers For Aggregate & Sand Applications

Carrier Vibrating Fluid Beds have been used for decades and are custom designed, engineered and manufactured to efficiently dry and cool sand and gravel with minimal erosion, buildup or product weepage through the deck. With the addition of a small amount of vibration, Carrier’s sand and aggregate fluid beds can minimize air fluidizing requirements to reduce energy consumption. Vibration characteristics can also be adjusted to optimize the drying process.

Aggregate & Sand Fluid Bed Systems

To meet the demanding requirements of aggregate producers, Carrier has developed a line of fluid bed processors specifically designed for the industry. These aggregate and sand dryers and coolers offer proven reliability and low operating costs.

Sand/Aggregate Dryer Only – A single, high-temperature fluid bed that typically uses 30-40% less fuel than a rotary dryer.
Dryer/Cooler with Recirculation – Warm exhaust air from the cooling section is re-circulated to the drying zone air heater, providing an additional energy savings of up to 15% and reducing the amount of air exhausted to atmosphere by up to 50%.
Dryer/Cooler with Multi-Point Predictive Controls – A PLC-based control system is used to precisely control the condition of the product as it moves from the drying zone to the cooling zone, allowing the system to take advantage of the evaporative cooling effect that occurs when warm, slightly-moist sand is exposed to cooling air. This system prevents hot or wet sand discharge during upset conditions and further improves energy efficiency by approximately 10%.

Features & Benefits

Operates at just one “G” of vibrational force to ensure dry, uniform product at the discharge and energy-efficient fluidization.
Vibration amplitude/frequency combination provides the precise amount of vibration to efficiently process surges of wet sand, rocks, and frozen lumps, and is easily adjusted to handle changes in process specifications.
Single, stainless steel flexible bellows connector designed for high temperatures and is easily bolted to the fluid bed.
Expanded hood bolted to the plenum and deck minimizes entrainment of fine particles in the exhaust gas.
Dryer/cooler drive mechanism allows full adjustment of important parameters such as amplitude, frequency, and angle of vibration.
Entire machine is dynamically isolated to reduce the reaction to the supporting foundation.
Insulation is attached with a steel skin, and hot air is supplied to the machine through a flexible metal bellow instead of fabric flexible connectors delivering the most reliable aggregate and sand dryer/cooler available today.
Various Carrier sand and aggregate dryer/coolers system designs are available, each offering varying degrees of energy savings and capital cost.
